PRECISION CONTROL
The Numark V7 sends control information over USB at more than ten times the standard MIDI rate. This innovative communication technique yields extremely high-precision, low-latency control.
There’s nothing like dropping the needle on a record for quickly locating a point in the track. We took that idea and developed our own modern take on it with Strip Search, the unique virtual-needle-drop touch strip. You can locate a point instantly within the track using the on-screen waveform and Strip Search.
Five hot-cue-assign buttons on each deck digitally mark your cues on the track. These marker points are recallable in ITCH, and you can even load Scratch LIVE cue points in ITCH.

Mixer Layout
The DJM-2000 inherits a larger foot print than its predecessors to accommodate a sectioned layout of features as well as cosmetically match the latest Pioneer CDJ series of digital media players. On the top center section of the mixer resides its EFX capabilities to give DJs a bounty of digital effects. Located on each side of the middle section is its audio mixing controls for connection of up to four digital or USB sources. Across the middle section, Pioneer added new INST FX (Instant Instrument FX) functions which allow DJs to further alter and create more sound effects. And, at the bottom center of the mixer is a large LCD touch display that provides DJs a window for remixing beats and adding effects with the ease of a simple touch of the screen.




Industry First Multi-Touch Panel
A first in the industry for audio mixers, the DJM-2000 incorporates a full-color 5.8-inch LCD multi-touch panel for adding audio effects. Users can simultaneously manipulate the displayed controls on the panel by touching different areas of the screen. Three different performance modes are available including:

* Frequency mix – Enables more precise mixing within seven frequency ranges. For example, users can enhance the bass region within the music they’re mixing.
* Sidechain remix – DJs can create seven different dynamic audio effects with touches and movements on the screen.
* MIDI mode – Allows the user to assign various controls displayed on the LCD screen to control DJ software via MIDI. Four types of MIDI modes are available for more performance flexibility.

Evolved Beat Effects
A section of the mixer resides an Evolved Beat Effects adopted from earlier versions of the DJM series of mixers to generate a multitude of sound effects. Numerous buttons were added for selecting multiple effects and beat parameters for additional performance capabilities. Further manipulation of the sound effects can be made using the Effect Frequency knobs that changes the low, mid and high frequency bands of the music. Turns of the knobs enhances the effects to each frequency band, i.e., an echo added specifically to the vocals of the music or a doubling of the hi-hat rhythm, providing incredible performance options.

Instant Instrument FX
The INST FX (Instant Instrument FX) provides six additional audio effects that include Noise, HPF, LPF, Jet, Zip and Crush. Each of the effects can be induced into the channel with a turn of the Filter knob. Additionally, the Parameter knob allows the effects to be fine tuned.

Pro DJ Link
When used specifically with Pioneer’s CDJ-2000 or CDJ-900 turntables via Pro DJ Link, the DJM-2000 becomes an even more powerful musical tool. The mixer incorporates four Ethernet ports in the back of the unit allowing up to four of the most recent CDJ turntables to be connected (via LAN cables) while sharing only one music-filled SD card1 or USB storage device. In addition, up to two laptop computers pre-installed with Pioneer’s music management software rekordbox™ can be interfaced with the DJM-2000 via LAN cables, in cases that two DJs are transitioning for their individual performances.

Live Sampler
A cool feature of the mixer is its Live Sampler capability which allows the sound from a microphone or from the MASTER output to be recorded directly into the mixer. The “sampled” sound can instantly be transferred via LAN cable to a CDJ-2000/900 for scratching.

Link Monitor
When linked with the CDJ-2000 player, the mixer informs the DJ of its connected status. The JOG rings of the turntable changes in color based on the current on-air status or channel number connection, providing quick visual indications to the DJ.

USB interface
The DJM-2000 features a USB audio interface2 that allows direct computer connection without the need for an external sound card. Up to four audio sources can be assigned to each channel providing even more flexibility. For additional convenience, the MASTER output can be connected directly to a computer for recording3 of performances.

Sound Quality
Continuing the prestigious reputation of Pioneer mixers, the DJM-2000 provides excellent sound quality. By utilizing balanced hybrid op-amp and a perfectly balanced output circuit in the analog processing stage, Pioneer managed to significantly decrease induced noise resulting in a dynamic range of 107dB with 0.004% THD for an extremely clean and powerful sound.

Additional features of the DJM-2000 include:

* Switching 3-Band EQ/Isolator - Equipped with a switching 3-band EQ (+6dB to -26dB) and 3-band Isolator (+6dB to -∞dB) on each channel

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS - KONTROL X1




You'd be forgiving for thinking that NI's first attempt at a controller for their popular Traktor DJing software would be along the lines of Akai's APC40 - replicating the software's GUI and strongest features in hardware, making the visual feedback recognisable and the layout logical.

But you'd be far off the mark - NI has, for better or for worse, squarely aimed its product at one sector of its market - timecoded vinyl and CD users. While this makes sense as a business choice - NI needs to associate itself with currently installed professional club systems and equipment if it's to truly become a standard - it is odd to completely remove the ability, or at least make it very difficult, to use the X1 away from these scenarios.

That being said, NI has admitted that this isn't the last controller we'll see from it, so let's assess the X1 in the context it was designed for.

In detail :



Anyone who is familiar with NI's excellent groovebox Maschine will instantly recognise the look and feel of the X1 - its black metal sheen and rubberised buttons have a satisfying and reassuring feel and it definitely feels like it will take a beating on the road and in the club. Once the unit is plugged in, like Maschine, it glows an array of colours from its backlit buttons and instantly works with the new version of Traktor - not a MIDI map in sight.

Native instruments kontrol x1

The X1's size and shape are designed to sit alongside a standard hardware mixer - not unlike Allen & Heath's Xone:1D. Unlike the 1D though, the X1 squeezes complete control of two decks into a tiny footprint, and does so quite remarkably.

The X1 is laid out fairly logically, with the effects and transport sections being of main interest. The effects section is comprehensive to say the least with a total of 28 controls for what is essentially a fairly simple element of Traktor. Along with the standard effects on/off buttons and amount knobs, NI has included a Dry/Wet knob, a global on/off button on each effects channel as well as Shift functions to cycle through effects.

NI has also taken the questionable decision to label each of the on/off buttons and knobs with three of the most popular DJ effects: Delay, Reverb and Filter. It's up to you how much of an annoyance this could be – initially, we found it confusing, but after some reshuffling, we got used to it and it does make sense.

Conveniently, hitting Shift and FX On will make these labelled effects active on that channel, so if you have gone crazy with effects selection you can reset it to the defaults with one click and start again.


There are four endless stepped rotaries on the X1, with the first two controlling browser selection and loading with a click while its Shift-functions provide track-seeking and view-changing (ie,. making the browser temporarily fullscreen). Scrolling through the browser works perfectly and loading is swift but the track-seeking resolution could be a little less extreme.

The other two rotaries control looping in a very intuitive manner - turning the knob controls loop length and clicking it down controls loop on/off. This is nothing revolutionary but it's a genius move by NI to give intuitive and fairly comprehensive control over looping with a single knob.

The X1's transport controls finish off the unit, with a total of 16 buttons that double-up as cue triggers when the Hotcue button is active as well as having multiple Shift-functions. The problem with Shift functions, of course, is that not only do they require multiple mappings and, sometimes, a photographic memory, but also the jumping in and out of different 'pages' does nothing for your flow and focus when performing.

This is obviously something NI is very aware of and it's worked hard to label the X1 where appropriate while still maintaining a clear layout. This is the case for everything but the Hotcue function - we repeatedly found ourselves panicking when a track wouldn't play only to discover that we were in Hotcue mode attempting to launch an unassigned cue. The only visual reference for this mode is a slight change in shades of blue depending on your cues and an illuminated Hotcue button.

It would have been nice to see a change of colour to avoid confusion – double-mapping buttons such as Play, Stop and Cue needs to be treated with clarity to avoid errors and we don't feel like the X1 makes it obvious enough.

Software editing




The launch of NI's Maschine saw the introduction of Controller Editor - a comprehensive editing application for all of NI hardware controllers. For the X1, the options are straightforward but thorough - each button's CC number can be changed, its type selected (ie, CC, Note, Pitchbend etc), channel number and mode be set (ie, toggle, trigger, gate or inc), its value between 0 and 127 changed and when the action of the button occurs decided (ie, on pressing or on releasing).

Similar options are available for the rotaries, which makes Controller Editor incredibly useful and stretches the cost of the X1 quite a bit, if you take the time to map it for other jobs.

Summary

If you're an in-the-box DJ, it's more than likely you will find the X1 to be lacking. There are no velocity or pitch controls and no crossfader, making its €229 price tag a lot less appealing for what is essentially a small part of your potential setup.

That being said, touring DJs who are looking for a hardware addition to their current timecode-based Traktor setup will fall in love with the X1. What it really excels at is intuitive control: everything does what it feels like it should and it only takes a few minutes before you become very comfortable.

In context, the X1 delivers maximum performance and is one of the most instinctive controllers we've ever used. In-the-box DJs will need to hold out (X2?), but anyone craving a slim solution to sit alongside club installs need to check it out. It just makes sense.

Verdict

A highly impressive controller that makes up for its shortcomings by being highly intuitive.

Odata ce te obisnuiesti, problema e simpla, iar set-upul initial nu mai ridica probleme.

Odata setat, nu iti ia mult sa iti dai seama de potentialul care se afla in fata degetelor tale.
Feelingul vinylului de control asupra fisierelor digitale din laptop este absolut direct.
Principalul scop al Traktor PRO este acela de a emula senzatia pe care ti-o ofera pick-upul, iar la acest capitol reuseste impecabil.
Miscarile fine ale mainii pe vinyl si variatiile delicate in pitch control sunt clar traduse imediat de software. Beatmatchingul mp3-urilor se simte la fel ca si cand ai pune pe placi.

Pre-efectele reprezinta probabil punctul forte al softului. Cu doua setari de baza, "chained" si "advanced", traktorul permite numeroase combinatii si permutari asupra a 20 de efecte.
In modul "chained" poti lega un flange, filter effect sau un gater iar toate pot fi controlate cu un single wet/dry control.
In modul "advanced" poti intelege cum fiecare efect este construit, apoi sa il customizezi dupa nevoiele tale. De fapt, e foarte usor sa te pierzi in posibilitatile pe care efectorul ti le ofera, iar cea mai mica miscare sau schimbare, sa modifice si sa altereze sunetul intr-un mod considerabil.

Includerea in varianta finala a compatibilitatii 4-decks de asemenea ridica potentialul posibilitatilor, in esenta, poti folosi decks-urile aditionale ca un "in-built sampler", declansand loops-urile si cues cu usurinta.
Traktorul detecteaza cu usurinta BPM-ul oricarei melodii , iar daca uneori mai "sare", totusi permite armonia loops-urilor din mers, chiar daca folosesti timecode vinylul sa iti controlezi fisierele.
Una din cea mai placuta surpriza a fost atunci cand am descoperit, ca daca mixezi fara vinyl, folosind doar mixerul intern si functiile de beatmatching, este la fel de amuzant ca atunci cand mixezi cu vinyl.
Fara sa te concentrezi pe beatmatching si pe sincronizarea pieselor (nu mai esti nevoit sa faci asta), te poti trezi ca mintea ta vrea sa combine efecte, acapella's si loops intr-un mod in care nu ar fi posibil daca o ureche este concentrata pe beaturi. Pentru a putea scoate "untul" din Traktor, va trebui sa inveti intr-un mod eficient sa controlezi parametrii interni, cum sunt efectele si filtrele, MIDI-ul, deoarece tastatura laptopului nu iti va ajunge. Cu o vasta gama de MIDI controlere pe piata, iti poti seta cu usurinta gear-ul, intr-un mod organizat.
Pentru a intra in amanunte mult mai detaliate ale Traktorului, mi-ar trebui infinit de multe pagini.
In labirintul de a aplica filtre, de a customiza schema de visuals, folosind inregistrarea interna, salvarea parametrilor efectelor unice creeate de tine, catalogarea si organizarea selectiei de muzica, toate necesita o atentie sporita. E suficient sa spunem ca Traktor PRO "face mai mult decat vad ochii", si aproape face totul incredibil de bine.

Minusuri

Ca sa fiu sincer, nu sunt prea multe. Tracktor nu este, cu siguranta, cel mai solicitant program din punct de vedere CPU disponibil pe piata, dar are necesitatile sale, asa ca va trebui sa te asiguri ca echipamentul tau este superior cerintelor minime. Eu folosesc un Macbook de 2.0 Ghz, cu 1 Gb de RAM, si am avut parte de cateva dificultati cu software-ul, dar niciodata crash-uri. Recunosc ca Macbook-ul meu este folosit pentru absolut orice ( email, imagini, productie muzicala ), deci e cam incarcat de software.
Manualul si instructiunile incluse ar necesita, de asemenea, niste imbunatatiri. Daca printezi manualul, nu vei gasi un cuprins ( ci doar un scurt index departe de a fi inteligibil ), ultima solutie fiind deseori Google. Totusi, folosind informatiile abundente de pe forumuri, tutoriale, Youtube si site-uri pentru DJ, vei gasi destule resurse pentru a-ti imbunatati abilitatile in materie de Traktor.

In concluzie

Chiar daca Traktor este mai versatil decat doua platane, o cutie de discuri si un mixer, necesita si putin mai multa rabdare. Sunt multe de asimilat – de la a invata cum sa iti organizezi optim muzica digitala, cum sa stapanesti diferitele efecte – totusi putina rabdare aduce mari recompense. Daca aloci o cantitate suficienta de timp pentru a experimenta toate posibilitatile oferite, experienta ta cu Traktor va fi cu siguranta mai placuta.
Deschiderea propriului tonomat in totalitate digital iti va oferi, de asemenea, posibilitatea de a include in seturile tale muzica pe care nu te-ai fi gandit niciodata sa o mixezi. Frumusetea software-ului Traktor este ca va face atat de mult sau de putin pe cat ii ceri. Este infinit de versatil, fiind adecvat oricarui tip de DJ.
